World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria, What You Should Know

After the whole mess with the hackers at Battlenet.com and Blizzard, it’s probably a good idea that the latest expansion, Mists of Pandaria, is coming out soon. It’s already available for pre-order and the guys at WOW have really been keeping us drooling over the possibilities. By “us,” I really mean me. It took me a bit to pick a race among the ones that came with the base game of WOW. It wasn’t until Cataclysm came out that I truly committed to my Worgen character. To be completely honest, I’m a sucker for humanoid animal forms so upon hearing about Mists of Pandaria, I couldn’t wait to see what new race would come out.

I have to admit, on first glance, Mists of Pandaria looks like Kung-Fu Panda on steroids but WOW would never deliver anything short of epic in terms of the race’s history and its powers. So here’s what you should know:

It all begins in the mysterious and almost unknown portion of Azeroth called Pandaria. Our characters find themselves in The Wandering Isle, an island off Pandaria. For unknown reasons, a drastic weather change ocurrs and it spirals the island out of control, leaving the elders of the Isle seeking the elements for help. That’s where you and I come in as Pandaren, the newly introduced race.

The Pandaren, as the title suggests, have remained hidden in the mists of Pandaria and secluded from the rest of Azeroth. For this reason, very little is known of them. Previously oppressed by an ancient warlord by the name of Mogu, the Pandaren sought their freedom through their clever diplomatic skills and the mysterious power behind their unarmed combat. When tragedy befell Azeroth many years later, the emperor of Pandaria at the time made a deal with fate, allowing his beloved land to be covered in a mist, hiding it from the rest of Azeroth.

Monks, like the Pandaren themselves, are masters in unarmed combat. They also have healing powers that can cure almost everything and anyone, but only the truly powerful monks can brew potions that outlast anything else.

Aside from the story content, this WOW expansion offers improvements in many systems, such as talent specification and new challenge modes. I won’t spoil all your surprises, but Mists of Pandaria is something any WOW fan should be looking forward too. I honestly never expected panda-like characters in Azeroth, and if you think the idea of Pandarens is awesome, wait til you see everything Pandaria has in store for you.
