Syfy Vampire Movie Marathon Labor Day Weekend

Syfy Vampire Movie Marathon Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day Weekend enjoy a Syfy Vampire Movie Marathon: a hopelessly dull three days with nothing better to do than play terrible games over Xbox Live and surf the channels for something at least a little entertaining to watch.  Fortunately for those who chose to do the latter, there’s something decent on television for the staggeringly useless three days.  The Syfy Channel will be playing an all weekend marathon of blood sucking vampire movies to help those get through the long, workless three days (well, when you put it that way, it doesn’t sound half bad).

The Syfy Vampire Movie Marathon will begin on Saturday, September 1st at 9:30 am, with the highlight films being Outlander and Predator 2 beginning at 6:30.  Unfortunately, there will be no screening of the original Predator, so if you’re looking forward to seeing the original Schwarzenegger classic, you’ll have to go about that on your own way.  It seems an interesting tactic to play the critically reviled sequel to a critically acclaimed movie, neither about vampires, in a Labor Day vampire movie marathon.  I, however, do not question the thought process of Syfy, and readily await a follow-up to the original Syfy masterpiece, Crocosaurous vs. Sharktopus.

On Sunday, September 3rd, the only highlight film will be the gruesome vampire horror flick, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.  The spiritual successor to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, the film follows the story of the four kids who fell through the magical wardrobe years later, as they travel back to Narnia, only this time, as vampires!  As awesome as this movie plot would have been, it is unfortunately not the plot of this particular film.  In fact, this film has nothing to do with vampires in the slightest (such as Predator 2 above).  It’s still unclear as to whether the Syfy Vampire Movie Marathon planning team knows exactly what vampires are.

On Labor Day itself, the highlights will start at 4:30 pm with Stake Land, followed by Blade II at 6:30 (again, there will be no original Blade, so that one is up to you).  The weekend will come to an end with Daybreakers at 9:00.

Within the vampire filled weekend, it’s nice to see Syfy (somewhat) sticking to the formula of normal vampires.  Although there’s nothing like Nosferatu or something such as 30 Days of Night, it’s nice to see Syfy is glancing over such slip-ups as Twilight or a Vampire Diaries marathon.  It would have been nice to see some of the original films, such as Blade or Predator, or have those random sequels replaced with something such as the original Dracula or I Am Legend (yes, they’re vampires, not zombies), even though budget and copyright probably withhold Syfy from doing such a thing, it’s still nice to sit back and relax with some good ol’ violent vampire movies.

Although Labor Day weekend ends up being drawl and dry in the long run, the Syfy Channel is here to save the weekend, and to put a little more “bite” into the three days.
