New Lionsgate Corporate Logo Unveiled at CinemaCon

A great year for Lionsgate means it’s time for a new logo

CinemaCon took place this year inside The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. During Lionsgate’s presentation they unveiled their new logo, one Chief Executive Officer Jon Feltheimer felt “reflects the limitless opportunities we see in our future.” And Lionsgate has had a banner year indeed.

In 2012, Lionsgate became the first nontraditional major studio to break the one billion dollar-mark at the domestic box office in a single calendar year, earning $1.24 billion in domestic theaters and more than $2.5 billion at box office worldwide. Led by such hits as “The Hunger Games” and “The Twilight Saga,” Lionsgate has gained a tidal wave of momentum in movie theaters.

Not only that, but in addition to the Company’s feature film leadership, Lionsgate plays a significant role in the television business with 28 shows on 20 different networks, including “Mad Men” (which has won a number of Emmy Awards), “Nurse Jackie,” “Anger Management,” “Nashville” and the upcoming Netflix show, “Orange is the New Black.”

Lionsgate Chief Marketing Officer Tim Palen, director of Devastudios (which designed the logo), had this to say about the Company and the new logo: “Lionsgate has always distinguished itself in the marketplace with bold, original and provocative films and TV shows, and our Company’s character is defined by our innovation, ingenuity and willingness to think outside the box. We wanted a logo that captured all those traits while still paying tribute to our entrepreneurial and independent roots.”

Lionsgate’s momentum shows no signs of slowing, either. They started off the year with “Tyler Perry’s Temptation,” “Warm Bodies,” “Snitch,” and “Texas Chainsaw 3D.” Over the course of 2013 they’ll be releasing “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire“; some emerging young adult movies such as “Divergent” and “Ender’s Game”; a few action films like “Now You See Me” starring Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman, as well as “Red 2″ with Bruce Willis, John Malkevich, Helen Mirren and Mary Louise-Parker reprising their roles from the original; African-American films like “Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas,” the Tyler Perry-produced “Peeples,” and Kevin Hart’s “Let Me Explain.” Add the horror film “You’re Next,” the comedy “The Big Wedding” (which features Robert De Niro and Diane Keaton), and it looks like we have a lot of great things to see at the theaters in 2013.
