Snapjoy: The Best Place To Store Your Photos Online

Snapjoy grabs the meta-data from your pictures, and impressively organizes them into a timeline that includes the year, month, date, and the time of day that each individual photo was taken. In a matter of minutes, all of your photos are organized chronologically.

There’s a new player in the online photo service game: Snapjoy. Sure, the field is already packed with sites like Flikr, Picasa, and Instagram; but, I encourage you to give Snapjoy a try, as it offers some exciting features that the others do not. Snapjoy bills itself as the “One Place For Your Photos,” and it’s a fitting description, as the service offers users the ability to store all of their photos, safely and organized, through Amazon’s cloud service. That’s a really nice feature if your laptop is lost or stolen, your photos will still be there waiting for you at Snapjoy. The company is funded by YCombinator, and cloud storage is just one of their many awesome specialities.

Here are a few more:

UPLOADING PHOTOS

Snapjoy makes uploading easy with two excellent options: you can either upload directly through the site, or download their free app, Shoebox, which conveniently snags all your photos at once. Shoebox was initially only available as an OS X download, but Snapjoy has recently added a Windows version. The app replaces the drudgery of uploading photos one by one with its quick an easy import process. Whether importing from iPhoto or directly from your camera, Shoebox is far and away superior to the typical photo upload process.

ORGANIZATION

Once your photos are uploaded through Shoebox, the fun really begins. Snapjoy grabs the meta-data from your pictures, and impressively organizes them into a timeline that includes the year, month, date, and the time of day that each individual photo was taken. In a matter of minutes, all of your photos are organized chronologically. I cannot overstate the convenience and symmetry of this feature. It’s a brilliant process that puts years of your digital data into a clean and easy to view format.

IMPORTERS

Snapjoy’s newest feature is called Importers. Importers allows you transfer all your photos from other photo sites like Flikr, Picasa, and Instagram, directly into your Snapyjoy account. Like everything else at Snapjoy, the process is super simple: in one easy click you can cull all of your online photos into one place. Pretty sweet.

PUBLIC SHARING

Snapjoy offers a unique approach to online sharing. By default, when you upload to Snapjoy, all your photos are set to private. You can then decide which photos you want to share, and how you want to share them.  You can easily share your photos publicly by linking to Facebook or Twitter; or, you can share with only a select group by generating a private link to you pictures.

If you’re looking for a service that offers a comprehensive approach to online photo storage, look no further. Snapjoy allows you to upload, import, and organize your photos with ease. Another fun feature is their “Remember This” tab on the homepage, which randomly selects and features photos from your library. It’s a trip down memory lane every time you login.
