In ‘Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel,’ The Boys Team Up With Superheroes
“Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel” looks pretty cool.
I don’t know about you, dear readers, but I have younger cousins, and on visiting with those cousins, we watch cartoons. Most of the time I’m pretty bored–the shows of today don’t hold a candle to the likes of “Talespin” and “Gargoyles”–but every once in a while they watch one that catches my interest. “Phineas and Ferb” is a great example.
Essentially, the plot of every episode is the same: Phineas and his stepbrother Ferb try to have the best possible day during the summer. Their projects usually involve massive amounts of wackiness, annoying the heck out of their sister, Candace. In turn, Candace does her best to reveal the extent of their shenanigans to their mother. Candace’s schemes are usually undermined by the ever-present B-plot of each episode, which stars Perry the Platypus, her brothers’ pet. He is also a secret agent (because, come on. What platypus isn’t?)
Perry, or “Agent P” as he’s known in the OWCA (Organization Without a Cool Acronym), spends his time fighting the machinations of Dr. Heinz Doffenschmirtz, mad scientist and inventor (though his inventions rarely work). All in all, this combination of elements makes for an entertaining show, and that’s why I’m excited to tell you that Phineas and Ferb is about to get even more entertaining.
In “Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel,” Dr. Doofenschmirtz’s latest -inator device accidentally removes the powers of Iron Man, the Hulk, Spider-Man and Thor. (You can imagine that none of them are very happy by this.) The heroes then come to the brothers’ home town and team up with Phineas and Ferb in an attempt to get their powers back. That’d be a big enough problem as it is, but when the superheroes’ nemeses find out they’re powerless, Red Skull, MODOK, Whiplash and Venom do their best to get their hands on Doofenschmirtz’s -inator to make sure they stay that way.
Will the heroes win the day? Will Perry the Platypus get a cool super-hero identity for this storyline? Will Candace finally be able to prove to her parents that the boys are up to something? You’ll have to wait until October 1, 2013 to get your hands on the special “Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel” Disney DVD to find out.
